The SBMHC Story
A Come-Full-Circle-Story
Behavioral health specialist Ben Brafman and former investment banker Jaime Blaustein collaborate to create SBMHC.
In 2010, at merely 21 years of age, Jaime Blaustein caught a flight to South Florida, heading to his fourth rehab center in 3 years. Having been informed by numerous doctors and specialists that his addiction was “beyond help,” Jaime was burdened with more than just his bags—he was weighed down by anxiety, fatigue, and a tenuous hope for change.
It was in this place that he encountered Ben Brafman, who was then the proprietor of Destination Hope and a renowned figure in the mental health arena—a meeting that would signal the start of a transformative journey.

Jaime’s Second Chance
Jaime ultimately arrived at a stage where he could no longer maintain sobriety, despite his utmost efforts. After several months, he was released from Ben’s treatment center, and the next several years were characterized by frequent hospital stays, overdoses, legal issues, intense emotional suffering, and strained family ties.
However, even amidst this struggle, a pivotal moment awaited. On Christmas Day in 2013, Jaime embraced the quiet miracle of surrender and found a solution that had long seemed unattainable. With empathetic support, a readiness to undertake the challenging work of recovery, and an increasing dedication to assisting others facing mental health and substance use issues, Jaime embarked on a new path—one anchored in purpose, connection, and hope.
The Comeback
Jaime was granted a genuine second chance at life. He discovered a level of inner tranquility and satisfaction he had never imagined. With recovery came a fresh start—he rebuilt his career, mended once-distant relationships, and became a beacon of hope, mentoring numerous individuals in recovery. His family finally felt at ease, knowing Jaime was not just enduring but truly flourishing.
In 2016, Jaime was admitted to Duke University’s MBA program, where he led the Investment Banking Club, explored the globe, built enduring friendships, and stayed true to his core mission: aiding others.
After earning his degree from Duke, Jaime relocated to New York City and embarked on a career on Wall Street as an investment banker with Credit Suisse. He handled intricate transactions like mergers and acquisitions, leveraged buyouts, restructurings, and capital financings within the Industrials sector. Despite his professional success, Jaime knew his real purpose reached beyond financial achievements. His heart remained deeply committed to helping others find recovery and embrace their own second chance at life.
Meanwhile, Ben Brafman continued to expand Destination Hope in South Florida, impacting countless lives through compassionate mental health and addiction care. As his national reputation as a reliable leader in behavioral health grew, Ben closely followed Jaime’s journey—and sensed that their paths were destined to cross again.
In early 2021, Ben approached Jaime with a daring idea: to create a world-class behavioral health center primarily focused on mental health, drawing from their shared experiences in addiction recovery. On the brink of a promotion to Vice President in investment banking, Jaime took time to contemplate. The answer soon became evident. His story, skills, and mission could have a far greater impact by helping save lives and offering hope to others.
And from that decision, The Sylvia Brafman Mental Health Center was established—a place founded on compassion, healing, and the belief that transformation is always achievable.
